Spiral: From the Book of Saw
Darren Lynn Bousman's 2021 film reboots the classic Saw franchise with a new story and a new lead character, Chris Rock's character Detective Zeke Banks. The killer's trademark traps are still creative as the movie examines themes of justice, corruption, and institutional decay. The film veers between homage and reinvention despite its attempt to infuse sociopolitical relevance. Though it raises questions about accountability and systemic shortcomings, it might not have the same psychological warfare and deeper philosophical undertones as previous movies. "Spiral" ultimately functions as a pivot and a tribute, redefining the franchise from a modern perspective.
