Stealing Raden Saleh
The ambitious Indonesian heist movie was directed by Angga Dwimas Sasongko and focused on Piko, a forger and art student. The film follows Piko and a team of amateur thieves who steal the iconic painting "The Arrest of Prince Diponegoro" from the Presidential Palace. With plot twists and character dynamics, the movie examines themes of devotion, desperation, and the price of ambition. The film's images, which include cinematography by Bagoes Tresna Aji, convey the grandeur of the robbery as well as Jakarta's urban pulse. The soundtrack and editing amplify the action and emotional beats, and the ensemble cast gives captivating performances. This movie is a daring step forward for Indonesian cinema, succeeding as both a gripping caper and a character-driven drama, despite a few plot gaps and pacing problems.
